Monthly Roundup

Hello there!  It certainly feels like time for a good old catch-up!  What have we been up to?  Everything and nothing it seems…

Work has been busy. Since I work in banking, February always seems to be the time the examiners show up.  For some reason, bank examiners always make me think of the movie “It’s A Wonderful Life”.   My mom sent me a text the other day to remind me to “tie a string around your finger, Uncle Billy”!

Speaking of my mom, you should check out her new blog!  I have been helping her with setup, and it is up and running!  She is (I must admit) a much more talented writer than I am, and she will have lots of useful information and funny stories to keep you entertained!  Check her out HERE!

The month of January has three family birthdays, and February has Valentine’s Day and my sweet hubby’s birthday. Needless to say, all these events keep us hopping.  For Valentine’s Day, I once again planned the 14 Day’s of Valentine’s for Nathan.  I do this every year, and I really think it is his favorite part of the holiday.  He very sweetly keeps all his treats in a little pile so he can take a picture after Valentine’s is over. 🙂  I found all the printables on Pinterest, but I don’t know the exact websites.

He surprised me this year with this STUNNING pearl bracelet for Valentine’s!  He really is the best!

Nate and I have been discussing for some time that we would like to start a record collection. This weekend his parents generously gave us all their old records, and now our collection is off to a fabulous start!  We both really like the more classic music, and now we have several of the “greats”.  The Beatles, Ray Charles, Elvis, The Mama’s and the Papa’s, The Righteous Brothers, The Supremes… we can’t wait to play all this great vinyl!

After much delay, I finally put up my 2016 Favorites! All my top items from the past year are included, with both beauty and lifestyle featured.  I have already found a few 2017 favorites… I’ll be talking about them soon!  You can read about my 2016 Favorites HERE.

I hope you all had a wonderful February, and are as excited for spring as I am.  As I write this, it is 81° outside!  Bring on the summer!

Weekly Roundup – Blessings and Thankfulness

Hello everyone! Long time, no see!  I have certainly taken a bit of an unplanned hiatus from the blog these last few months, so I guess this is more an Autumn Roundup than a Weekly Roundup.  Oddly enough, as the holidays are approaching I find life to be slowing down a little… maybe I shouldn’t say that out loud! 🙂  Here’s what we’ve been up to recently…

  • I think I mentioned before that I started a new job.  This was a great move and I have really been enjoying it, but the work is more challenging and has resulted in quite a few more tired evenings.  As time has passed I feel as though I am better acclimating to the change in schedule, so here I am… back again!
  • Nate and I were blessed to be able to sneak away for another fabulous vacation this year.  We so enjoyed our trip last year to the Outer Banks of North Carolina that we headed back again!  We got to spend 10 lovely days soaking up the sun, strolling on the beach and taking some great hikes.  While the vacation itself was amazing, the best part of our trips is always the time spent together, just the two of us.

  • Is it possible that Thanksgiving is next week?!  I feel like I left on vacation and came back to Christmas.  I am already feeling woefully behind this holiday season, but I do have one gift purchased… so there’s that.  The plan is to put my Christmas decorations up this weekend, so perhaps that will put me in a festive mood! The older I get the more I stop to absorb the blessings of the Christmas season and am so thankful that our families are close.
  • I have rediscovered my love for the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads!  This was a staple in my routine for some time, but as often happens, I let myself run out and didn’t repurchase.  I knew my skin has been rough and dull, but I just didn’t piece together that this was the missing ingredient.  I don’t know what’s in these things that makes the magic, but they have brought the glow and evenness back to my complexion.  This skincare staple really is a difference maker!

  • Do you suffer from chapped lips in the winter?  I do terribly, and I shared last year how much the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask helped my extremely chapped lips.  Now that fall is here, I have purchased another tube and it is once again an essential item.  It truly is the only thing that will keep my lips hydrated in the colder months.  You can read my complete review of the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask HERE.

Well, it feels so good to catch up after so much time away!  Thank you all for your patience.  Since we are headed into the busiest time of year, I am not going to promise any specific schedule at this point, but I will definitely be back more often.  Check back soon for a roundup of some of my favorite recipes I will be making for the holidays!

I hope you and your families have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Weekly Roundup – Fall Frenzy

Happy Friday everybody! 🙂  It’s been a few weeks since I’ve checked in here, but I’m excited to be back.  Thanks for stopping by… please read on to see what’s been up here lately!  If you enjoy these weekly posts, be sure to check out some other great bloggers through the link ups below!

The biggest thing that’s kept us both so busy this past month is work.  Since my sweet hubby is self-employed his schedule can definitely be undependable, and while he’s had a great month, his work has kept him working long hours and getting home late.  I have taken on a new job title at my 8-5, and have been training for the past three weeks.  I am LOVING the new position and the work involved, but it has meant later evenings for me as well, along with some seriously overloaded brain cells!  That’s life folks, and we’re loving it!

Since things have been so hectic lately, we made it a point to take a few days and get away over Labor Day.  We took a brief trip to Kansas City, and it’s a perfect town to sightsee if you ever get the chance!  They have a fabulous art museum for a town it’s size and it’s free!  Union Station always has great exhibits and things to entertain, as well being walking distance from other great attractions.

While at Union Station, we visited the somewhat controversial exhibit Body World.  While I wouldn’t personally recommend it for kids (although there were a ton of kids there), I think it is an extremely thoughtful and humbling experience for adults and definitely worth seeing.

Because of it’s impactful nature, I couldn’t bring myself to take any pictures at the exhibit.

September made it’s way in with 90 degree temps, but that did not keep me from decorating for fall!  I am just simply ignoring the fact that it feels like the dead of summer outside.  Perhaps I’ll wear a scarf tomorrow!

After my little hiatus, I did manage to get one post up this week… another addition to my How To series.  This on is about powder and you can check it out HERE!  I will do my best to get posts up as regularly as possible during these next to weeks of continued craziness… I promise a post on how I use my planner will be coming soon!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a snuggly, pumpkin-ey September!

Weekly Roundup – Haircuts & How To’s

Happy Friday!  This post is linked with 5 on Friday and High Five For Friday.  Be sure to head over to their sites for some more fun Friday posts!

Weekly Roundup Haircuts and How To's www.jilliandanielle.com

This week has been summed up by one word… Olympics!  I am a HUGE Olympics fan, and I would basically watch it all evening if Nate wasn’t getting sick of it.  I definitely laid claim to the TV Tuesday and Thursday nights for the gymnastics Team and All-Around events… highlight of the games for me!  GO USA!

Diet began Monday and after basically wanting to chew my arm off the first day, it’s been going pretty well.  Lots of protein, fruits and veggies, and keeping the sugars and processed foods to a minimum.  Have you tried these TURKEY BURGERS from Trader Joe’s?  I season mine up well before cooking with salt, pepper, garlic powder and a smoky rub… very yummy!

I am finally headed to get a haircut tomorrow.  I had to switch stylists, and trying to select a new stylist with no recommendations is tough!  Combine that with the craziness of everyday life, and it’s been over a year since I’ve been to the salon!  My hair is in the worst shape it’s ever been, so I am surely looking forward to an afternoon of pampering.

Have you all tried any of the “gel effect” polishes?  The only one I have tried is the Miracle Gel from Sally Hansen, and I’m kinda on the fence about it.  Everyone is talking up the new ones from Essie, but I HATE their regular polishes so I am hesitant to try.  Any suggestions?

I started a new blog series this week covering the basics of makeup application.  Each post will cover the How To’s of one type of makeup… this week we started with primers.  You can check out the first edition of the series HERE!

Thank you all for checking in, and be sure to come back next week for new posts on Monday, Wednesday and Friday!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Weekly Roundup – Cake & Washi Tape

Happy Friday and Happy August!

Weekly Roundup - Cake & Washi Tape www.jilliandanielle.com

I am eagerly anticipating the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics tonight, in fact I am counting down the minutes!  I plan to spend the majority of my nights for the next two weeks glued to my TV.  I’m not even an athletic person.  Like, at all.  The Olympics somehow make me watch and enjoy sports I would never dream of watching the rest of the year!

Does anyone else love Washi Tape?  I have held out on buying any for a long time, and I can’t believe I did!  It’s so handy for everything from decorating my planner to greeting cards to crafts!  I snagged two rolls at Dollar Tree this week for only a buck!

On Monday, I am finally going to begin some intense dieting.  *Sigh*  It’s beyond time to get back into some old clothes and feel better about myself.  I gave THIS RECIPE for a Coconut Chia Seed Parfait a trial run this week, and I think it will be a great breakfast option!

On a not so healthy note, I made a cake this week to donate to a local community fundraiser.  I tried a new recipe for this HURRICANE CAKE.  It looks fabulous, and I didn’t even get to taste it!

My July Favorites went up on Monday, and was basically a collection of some of my favorite things for summer… you can read about my favorites HERE.
