High Five For Friday + Time For A Catch-up

Happy Friday, everyone!  Whew!  What a week!  I am a tad behind as have not been able to get even one post up this week.  Score: Crazy Life – 1,  Blog – 0.  What have I been up to you ask?  Well…

1.  Remember that flip house I was telling you about?  Well, landscaping has begun!  The house originally had a pool and the previous owner had it filled in.  An old pool filled with dirt isn’t exactly a selling point, so we were on the hunt for something cost effective to do with the space.  We decide to make it a fire pit/seating area.  It’s looking pretty good, but so far we have hauled and unloaded one truckful of mulch, two truckfuls of river pebbles (because the first one was the wrong color… yay), and one stone fire pit.  We have been working every night trying to beat the rain that is coming!  We are sore and tired, but it is starting to look pretty good!

The before... after the landscaping fabric...waiting for more rock... more to come later, we will be adding stepping stones and painting the edge.

2. We have also been trying to make our garden beautiful!  We have gotten two beautiful hanging baskets for our porch and lots of plants for our garden, so we have been attempting to get everything in the ground this week.  We also planted a few bulbs of onion and garlic.  The only area we had to plant them was formerly a parking spot and has a lot of gravel.  I guess we will see how onions and garlic feel about dirt that is half gravel, but they are sprouting none the less and I am so excited!

Really. It like growing a garden in a parking lot. Maybe onions will just love all these rocks!

3. My sis-in-law Angie really brightened my week by bringing a huge bouquet of yellow peonies!  I had never seen yellow peonies before… the color was stunning and they smelled so amazing!  I am definitely planning on planting some peony bushes of my own when we have a more “permanent” home.

4.  Nate and I have been glued to Secrets and Lies on ABC since the first episode!  This Sunday was the series finale and we had Angie over for a viewing party.  We barbequed and had tons of yummy food… I ate myself silly!  Nate and I were also correct in our pick of who Tom’s killer was!  Have any of you watched Secrets and Lies?

5.  Nate and I LOVE Greek food… especially gyros.  There is a small local diner near our home that Nate swears have the best gyros of life.  Last weekend we stopped at a Mr. Gyros in Overland Park, Kansas.  I don’t know if this is a chain or if it is local to the area, but the gyros were amazing!  I especially love it when they include feta with the gyros.  I definitely recommend it if you are in the Kansas City area!

High Five For Friday + Time For a New Project

Hello everyone!  I have missed you all as I have been a post short this week.  However I am lucky enough to have taken a few days off work and I have a four day weekend ahead of me.  I am ready to rest and recharge.  It has been a fun and busy week… here’s what we have been up to!

H54F + Time for a new project www.jilliandanielle.wordpress.com

1.  My hubby and I have just purchased a new home to fix up and sell.  Nate has done several flip houses before (he is a realtor), but this is our first together!  There is plenty to do, and it seems that Menards runs are a weekly occurrence now.  Last Saturday, we borrowed his dad’s Ranger and headed out for supplies.  Hours later, we headed home with 40 bags of mulch, 4 bags of garden soil, enough electrical supplies for 40 outlets and 15 light switches, cleaning supplies and tools, and 5 daffodils that I had picked and was trying to get home safely (probably a bad idea in hindsight)!  As all the mulch was in the back, most of the rest was piled on top of me.

I embarrassed my husband and made him take this picture. It was pretty dark outside, but you can still see my flowers flying high!

2. I have begun and am continuing a series on my blog called Oregon Honeymoon Diaries.  We were blessed to have an amazing honeymoon in Oregon, and I am so excited to be able to see these amazing photos on the blog for you all to share.  You can see the first two posts here and here.

3.  These little beauties managed to jump into my shopping basket this week!  Review will be coming soon – spoiler… I love them!

I don't know how I can home with the two most scratched up ones in the store!

4.  Nate and I stumbled across this little gem!  People around here are going morel mushroom crazy and we can’t wait to find some more.  They are just about one of the best things you will ever eat!!!

5.  And lastly, I scratched my eye this week while I was removing my makeup (with a tissue of all things).  Unfortunately, it left a little bit of blood visible in my eye and the Doc says I can’t wear contacts until it heals.  So I am in my specs for the time being and I don’t know if my husband can handle it!  🙂

High Five For Friday + Spring Showers

Hello and Happy Friday!  It has been pretty quiet around here this week, but there have definitely been a few special moments…

1. The spring rains have finally arrived and the whole world is becoming beautiful, green and full of flowers!  I have been thoroughly enjoying all the daffodils, hyacinths and flowering trees that are blooming all over my town.  It seems my sprouting hostas have grown six inches overnight!

2. We were able to celebrate a wonderful Easter, and even though my honey was sick and had to stay in bed that day we were blessed to have each other and our wonderful families.  I came home on Easter to this sweet note and some chocolate that Nate had set out to surprise me.  Seems he was feeling romantic even though he was sickly. 🙂

3.  My mom and I were able to enjoy another fun movie this week!  A local theater was showing The Sound of Music and it was a sing-a-long too!  This is probably my favorite movie of ALL TIME, and to see it in the theater was definitely the most fun movie experience I have ever had.  We enjoyed the movie in a beautiful, restored old theater which made the experience even better.

4. I published a new post yesterday on my favorite hairstyling products and there are a few great Aquage items mentioned!  You can check it out here.

5. I have finally begun watching Scandal this week and am beginning to see what everyone is talking about! 🙂

Thank you so much for stopping by and I wish you all a wonderful weekend!  I would love to hear some of the highlights of your Easter week!

High Five For Friday + Happy Easter

Happy Friday everyone!  It’s been a good week. My weekend off helped my state of mind and everything seems a little fresher.  It’s amazing what a little rest can do!

Green Grass

1.  Easter is this Sunday!  Obviously you know this, but I am very excited!  As a Christian, Easter is such a joyful holiday.  The significance of what is means for us is powerful, and the freshness of spring makes me feel renewed.  For our area, the weatherman is calling for a beautiful day!

2. I am very behind on Easter goodies this year, but I am going to be making these cute Rice Krispie Easter Nest for my niece and nephew.  You can find the recipe here.

3.  I started a new travel series on the blog this week!  I will be doing several posts about our travel experiences and inspirations.  You can check out the first post here.

4.  I after reading Rachel Talbott’s post about the Pond’s Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle Cream I decided to give it a shot. Users were reporting amazing results, and I was excited try it.  It smells like an old lady.  A LOT.  My husband almost won’t let me come to bed with it on.  If I can make it past the smell I will let you know how it works out. 🙂

5.  We already have our DVR set to record The Ten Commandments this weekend.  This has been a Easter tradition since I was a child, and I can’t wait to watch it again this year!

Thanks for checking in and I hope you all have a wonderful,  meaningful Easter.  See you Monday!
