Weekly Roundup – Ice & Injuries

Well, I don’t have much to share with you all today as our week took a very unexpected turn!  The highlights of our week were as follows:

Weekly Roundup Ice & Injury www.jilliandanielle.com

  1. Injury
  2. Ice
  3. Crutches
  4. Compression bandages
  5. Doctors

Why, you ask?  My hardworking hubby was cutting some trees this past weekend and a limb fell towards him much sooner that he expected.  He injured his calf trying to avoid the falling limb.

He is unable to walk without crutches and we have been to several doctors to try to diagnose the injury.  He finally had a MRI late yesterday, so hopefully we will know exactly what happened soon!

Tree cutting can be very dangerous, and while I hate that he is hurt, I am extremely grateful that it was not much worse and that he should recover completely.  It has been my pleasure to take care of him, and I hate leaving him to go to work.  He has been a pretty pampered patient!

Sorry for the boring info, this has pretty much consumed our week!  On Monday, I shared my review of my new 2017 planner!  I chose the Rosa planner from Rifle Paper Co, and I included lots of detailed pictures with the review.  Be sure to check it out if you’re shopping for a new planner!

This week’s featured blog was Ashley from The Teacher Diva.  Do you know Ashley?  If not, click HERE to learn more!

My heart goes out this morning to the people of Nice.  It can be so discouraging to turn on the news every day and see another horrible thing happening in our world.  In my frustration I try to remember that God always has control of the situation and in Him we are more than conquerors.  “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

I hope you all have a wonderful week, and I’ll chat with you soon!  Happy Friday!

Although I love fashion, and I am never happier than when I manage to put together an outfit that is spot on, most days I feel like I miss the mark.  That is why I devour Ashley’s fashion posts and her Instagram feed!  Her style is effortless and chic, and perfectly embodies what I want my style to be.  Her color palette is perfect and her style relaxed, and she has provided me with some intense fashion inspiration!

A native of Dallas, Texas and former teacher, Ashley now works on her blog full time while still volunteering at local schools.  Her easy writing style and fabulous photography help to inspire everyday women to achieve the style of their dreams!

Why I Chose The Rifle Paper Co. Planner & Review

I just recently received my new 2017 planner!  Typically I don’t order so far in advance, but I learned from experience last year that the good ones sell out fast.  Like many planners these days, this planner covers 17 months and runs from August 2016 – December 2017, so I only have a month before I can begin using it.  I can’t wait!

After much deliberation, I ended up choosing the Rifle Paper Co. Rosa Planner!

Rifle Paper Co Planner Review www.jilliandanielle.com

I had narrowed my choices to the Erin Condren Life Planner, the Emily Ley Simplified Planner, and this Rifle Paper Co. Planner.

I wanted to cover the reasons I choose the Rifle Paper Co. planner and my initial thoughts on it.  Once August arrives and I begin using the planner, I hope to do an updated review covering how I use it.

Originally, I was pretty convinced that I was going to purchase the Emily Ley Simplified Weekly Planner ($58.00).  I love the aesthetic and vision of her brand, and I love the ‘simplified’ idea of her planners.  The reason I ended up deciding against the Simplified Planner was the new design.

This year, their weekly planners are no longer spiral bound, but come in a slim leather bound design.  Spiral bound is essential for me, because it drives me crazy if my planners don’t lay flat!  Also, instead of colorful patterns, the planners now come in five solid colors.

The leather planners are beautiful in a sophisticated way, but removing the spiral binding was a deal-breaker for me.  I still love Emily Ley’s designs and am hopeful the spiral binding will return next year!

*Spiral binding is still available for the daily editions of the Simplified Planner.

In complete opposition to the Emily Ley designs, the Erin Condren Life Planners seemed to contain too many bells and whistles.  I prefer a simple design that I can customize to my needs… the Life Planner was also the largest of the three.  These features, along with the highest price point ($60.00+), ruled out the Erin Condren Life Planner.

This left me with the Rifle Paper Co. Rosa Planner… which was, remarkably, the cheapest of the three ($34.00)!  How did that happen?  I invariably pick out the most expensive option, even if I don’t know the cost!

The Rosa planner is spiral bound (although covered with an outer binding), it has the colorful, patterned cover I was looking for and perfect page layout!  I ordered mine from Anthropologie, but you can also order from Rifle Paper Co.  Anthropologie offered an exclusive early access, so I was able to get mine in June… Rifle Paper Co. orders will not ship until mid-July.

This planner is of good quality, and I am so pleased with it so far!  The paper is a lovely beige color with a tasteful font and simple floral drawings.  Each page of the weekly layouts contains an inspirational quote.

Nothing is perfect, and the one negative I have discovered with this planner is the paper quality.  This shocked me, because I expected a dedicated paper company to have exceptional paper!  To me the paper seems much to thin… not thin enough for my pens to bleed through, but thin enough that I feel I need to be careful when turning the pages.

The planner met my #1 criteria and lays perfectly flat.  I also love that it comes with a stretchy band to hold the planner shut… no torn pages or lost coupons while in my purse!

For page layout, the Rifle Paper Company planner contains:

A two page calendar of 2017 & 2018

A section for Holidays & Important dates for 2017

A section for Notes

A Monthly section, containing a two page spread of each month

Tabbed sections for each individual month, each containing a two page spread for each week

A section for Contacts, with room for 18 contacts

A page with two pockets and a ruler lined edge

So far, this planner seems to have the perfect features for me.  Enough options to be fully efficient, but not overwhelmed.

Once August arrives, I’ll be back with another post about how I use this beautiful planner.

Do you prefer to plan electronically, or are you a paper planner person?  What planner will you be purchasing this year?  I would love to hear!

Weekly Roundup – Friends & Food

Hello all!  Happy Friday!  Is it hot where you live?  It’s been boiling here!  Missouri is such a strange place… it’s dry because we need rain, but the air is oppressively humid.  This is a state of extremes.

Weekly Roundup Friends & Food www.jilliandanielle.com

We got to start off the week spending some great time with amazing friends.  We don’t live close, so we don’t get to see each other often, but whenever we do it’s like we were never apart.  Those are really the dearest friendships.

Flashback Friday to some early makeup experimentation – Friends that play together stay together

I did some extra cooking since we were having company… this lemon pie recipe from Joanna Gaines was epic!  SUPER easy and beautiful too!  This warm spinach artichoke dip went perfectly with some evening drinks.

I ordered my new planner for the upcoming year!  So excited, it should be arriving any day!  No hints… I’ll be posting about it soon!  This week’s edition of My Favorite Blogs was about Katie from Cup of Tea… you can read Edition 3 HERE.

I won a country ham this week from my work, purchased from our local county fair!  Have you ever cooked a country ham?  Waaaayy different from a ham bought at the store.  You have to soak the ham for at least 24 hours before cooking… fingers crossed this turns out!

I am hosting my family for the Fourth of July, so it has been a busy week preparing for a fun weekend!  The fourth is also my dad’s birthday, so I will be making him a yummy ice cream cake!  I layer an oreo crust, chocolate & vanilla ice cream, chocolate candies (I use Reese’s, Kit Kat’s & Heath), whipped cream, and I make a flag on top with raspberries & blueberries!   Yum!

I hope you all enjoy a wonderful Fourth of July with family and friends, and remember to take a moment to reflect that we are blessed to live in the United States of America.
