My Current Hairstyling Favorites – Featuring Aquage

Today I wanted to chat about my favorite hairstyling products… of which there are quite a few!  First of all, I had better tell you about my hair.  My hair is naturally curly and somewhat frizzy.  The hair along the nape of my neck is coarser and more unruly, while the hair from my ears up is softer and much finer.  I usually style my hair one of three ways: naturally curly and air dried, blown strait and styled with a flatiron or loosely curled with a 1 1/2 inch curling iron.

There are a lot of Aquage products included here… not for any particular reason, it just seems to be a brand that really works for me.  I was first introduced to the line in high school and have found even more things I love from them since!  It is only available in some salons, however your stylist should be able to order it for you even if your salon doesn’t carry it.

For my natural, curly hairstyle:

This is the quickest and easiest way to style my hair… and the one that I do the least often!  I shampoo and condition my hair, then put it up briefly in a towel.  I want a good amount of water left in my hair when I do this.  If the day is dry with little humidity, I will simply apply a small amount (dime sized) of Biosilk Silk Therapy oil to the bottom half of my hair.  I gently move the hair with my fingers to create the part I want and let it air dry.  On humid, frizzy days I will add in a layer of Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Defining Lotion after the Biosilk for some additional hold.  I do NOT comb, brush or touch my hair to much!

For my straightened hairstyle:

After shampooing and conditioning, I spritz a little of the KMS Free Shape Quick Blow Dry through the ends of my hair.  This will shorten the drying time and adds a little bit of smoothness.  I then spray in some Uplifting Foam by Aquage at the roots of my hair and rub it in slightly… I do not pull it through the length of my hair!  At this point I will blow dry my hair, moving it around with my fingers, until it is about 85% dry.  I then use a flat paddle brush to pull my hair straight as I dry it the rest of the way.  The GHD Classic flatiron is my tool of choice and I use this to straighten my hair, working in sections, until it is sleek and smooth.  To finish the style, I use a light mist of the Aquage Beyond Shine spray.  This adds a beautiful shine to the hair without leaving it greasy.

For my loose, styled curls:

This is the style I find myself doing the most often, because of how quickly it can be done!  Although I think this style looks best on freshly washed hair, it still looks nice if I have washed my hair the night before and so I do this on most work mornings to save time.  Because of my natural curl, I begin by using my flatiron on the pieces of hair around my hairline and part where the curling iron won’t reach.  This will ensure that the style is smooth and professional looking.  I then section my hair from the ears up and starting at the bottom, curl my hair away from my face in 2 inch sections.  I then split the top section of hair into 4 sections and continue to curl until my whole head is finished.  If I feel I need a little more texture, I will add some Garnier De-Constructed Texture Tease and tousle just a little.  Then I finish with the Aquage Finishing Spray because of it’s light, flexible hold.  This is by fair my favorite hairspray!

Also, if I am doing an updo and lots of hold is needed, Kenra Volume 25 is my hairspray of choice.  It will freeze your style for all day hold!

I hope you enjoyed this roundup of my favorite hairstyling products!  My motto for my hair is that I want it to feel as light and natural as possible… not heavy or sticky with harsh products.  I feel like the items I have assembled here definitely accomplish that for me.  Soon I will try to do a post on which shampoos and conditioners are my favorites!

I would love to read about your favorite styling products in the comments below, and if you liked this please feel free to share using the buttons at the bottom of the post! 🙂
