Choosing Joy

This is a topic that has been on my mind a lot lately, and I thought it was time to try and put my thoughts into words.  It’s a concept that I have always felt passionately about, and when there are days when the world seems to be spiraling out of control, it is more important than ever.

The lyrics to one of my favorite songs go like this:

… Blessed be Your name

When the sun’s shining down on me

When the world’s ‘all as it should be’

Blessed be Your name

On the road marked with suffering

Though there’s pain in the offering

Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out I’ll turn back to praise

When the darkness closes in, Lord Still I will say…

These words have always brought home to me that joy doesn’t always just happen – it’s a choice.  Thankfulness is a choice.  Even when it hurts.

I am by nature a “glass half full” person, so I understand that this idea may seem easier to me than it may to you.  Some of my dearest loved ones are “glass half empty-ers”, so I’ve had plenty of years to gain a little understanding on how they process things.  I know how hard, or downright impossible, it may seem to them to choose joy.

I truly believe that joy and positivity is something that we have to practice… you have to “fake it till you make it”.  I also believe strongly in the power of the spoken word.  We all have negative thoughts that crowd our minds on a daily basis, but speaking those negative thoughts aloud, and letting our brains process them, can truly be harmful.

Force yourself to speak positive words aloud even when your thoughts are telling you otherwise.   You might be surprised the difference it will make to your outlook over time.

Take some time this week to choose joy.  Reach out and grab happiness, even when it seems fleeting, and don’t let go!

Weekly Roundup – Accidents & Automobiles

Hello all!  Happy Friday!  I have taken a bit of a hiatus from blogging for the last week or two (thank goodness for scheduled posts), and have found it a little tough to get back on track.  You’ll have to pardon me if this weeks Roundup seems a little scattered.  Next week I’ll be back full force!

I was thrilled this week when we bought a new car!  Well… new to us, because we rarely buy brand new vehicles.  It’s a pretty little Accord that has… wait for it… Dual Climate Control!  And heated seats!  I feel as though I’m in heaven.  Nate and I will finally be able to be in the car together without disagreeing over the temperature… what bliss!

Thank you to those who sent well wishes to my husband this week!  He has a sprain and a muscle tear, but everything should heal normally and we are thankful it was not much worse.

There is something about hot weather that makes almost any lip product feel heavy and gloopy on my lips.  I’ve been reaching for lip balms almost exclusively… THIS ONE and THIS ONE have been favorites!

The first of my gladiolas are blooming!  These are some of my favorite summer flowers and I can’t wait to have a vase full on my kitchen table.

This week I shared the lasted edition of My Favorite Blogs and a neat hostess idea I used when we had overnight guests.  Be sure to check back next week as I share a few thoughts on how I combat negativity.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

My Favorite Blogs Edition 6 – Rachel Talbot

Today, for edition 6, I thought I would share with you one of my favorite YouTubers!  She is a mom, a beauty guru, and a musician… meet Rachel!

My Favorite Blogs Edition 6 Rachel Talbott www.jilliandanielle.com

Rachel from Rachel Talbott

While Rachel has a lovely blog, her primary focus is her YouTube channel… or channels! Rachel is a beauty guru, but her focus is mostly on skincare.  While she does offer makeup tips as well, her theory seems to be that if you take care of your skin you need less makeup!  All her videos are expertly filmed and fun to watch, and I really trust her recommendations!

In addition to beauty advice, she also offers a wide variety of topics including recipes, DIY’s crafts, décor, parenting and organization!

She also has an interest in music, which you can listen to at Rachel Talbott Music.

The YouTube gene runs in the family… her husband, Byron, is a chef, and also has his own cooking channel on YouTube!

If you don’t know the Talbott’s, be sure to take a few minutes to get to know this interesting family!

Being A Welcoming Hostess

I was inspired by Joanna Gaines’ post about providing a tray for your guests with fun goodies and overnight essentials.

We recently had some dear friends come to visit and were thrilled to be able to host them for the night!  I loved idea of leaving them a few welcoming touches.  Here is what I included for them on our guest tray…

Being A Welcoming Hostess www.jilliandanielle.com

L-R: Small vase with some fresh greenery, some skincare samples (Bobbi Brown Cleansing Oil & Perricone MD Finishing Cream), fresh bar of Yardley soap, candies, clean towels and a handwritten welcome note with our WIFI password and useful information*.

*Including some notes for your guests about where to locate some household essentials is very helpful!  Let them know where to find the aspirin, outlets, remotes and extra bathroom necessities.

Whether you have a large house or small, making your guests feel relaxed and welcomed will ensure everyone has a wonderful visit.  Please let me know what you do to welcome visiting guests!

Weekly Roundup – Ice & Injuries

Well, I don’t have much to share with you all today as our week took a very unexpected turn!  The highlights of our week were as follows:

Weekly Roundup Ice & Injury www.jilliandanielle.com

  1. Injury
  2. Ice
  3. Crutches
  4. Compression bandages
  5. Doctors

Why, you ask?  My hardworking hubby was cutting some trees this past weekend and a limb fell towards him much sooner that he expected.  He injured his calf trying to avoid the falling limb.

He is unable to walk without crutches and we have been to several doctors to try to diagnose the injury.  He finally had a MRI late yesterday, so hopefully we will know exactly what happened soon!

Tree cutting can be very dangerous, and while I hate that he is hurt, I am extremely grateful that it was not much worse and that he should recover completely.  It has been my pleasure to take care of him, and I hate leaving him to go to work.  He has been a pretty pampered patient!

Sorry for the boring info, this has pretty much consumed our week!  On Monday, I shared my review of my new 2017 planner!  I chose the Rosa planner from Rifle Paper Co, and I included lots of detailed pictures with the review.  Be sure to check it out if you’re shopping for a new planner!

This week’s featured blog was Ashley from The Teacher Diva.  Do you know Ashley?  If not, click HERE to learn more!

My heart goes out this morning to the people of Nice.  It can be so discouraging to turn on the news every day and see another horrible thing happening in our world.  In my frustration I try to remember that God always has control of the situation and in Him we are more than conquerors.  “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

I hope you all have a wonderful week, and I’ll chat with you soon!  Happy Friday!
