Real Techniques – Brushes & Miracle Complextion Sponge

I am a huge fan of Real Techniques Makeup Brushes! In fact, by far the majority of the brushes that I use on a daily basis are from Real Techniques.  I love their softness, durability, and affordable price point.

Several of these brushes have been in my regular rotation for two years or more and are still in great shape! They wash well, and in my opinion are softer than any other brushes I’ve tried at a similar price.  The prices for these brushes range from $5.99 – $25.00, and I buy mine at Ulta.

Since we already know that these brushes get a rave from me, I thought I would show you a few of my favorites that I use on the daily.

Expert Face Brush –

Out of all of these, this is the one I would miss the most if it was gone.  It is the perfect size, density, and softness to apply my foundation and I can’t imagine using another brush.

Powder Brush –

Pretty straightforward here… this is a densely packed, sturdy, soft powder brush.

Blush Brush –

This is a lovely brush and probably the softest of the bunch, but I don’t actually use it for blush.  I prefer a fluffier brush for a more diffused blush application, so I use this brush for my bronzer.  For me it is the perfect size to control my bronzer placement without creating a full on contour.

Deluxe Crease Brush-

This is meant to be a crease brush, but in my opinion it is not fluffy enough to create a diffused transition shade.  I use this brush for blending concealor and it does a great job!

Base Shadow Brush-

This is the most versatile eyeshadow brush I own.  In a pinch, you could do your whole eye look with it!  I mostly use it for more chiseled crease colors.

When I was in Ulta and I spotted the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge for only $5.99, I knew I wanted to give it a shot!  I must admit, I have never tried the Beauty Blender… I simply can not bring myself to spend twenty dollars on a sponge.

To me the real “beauty” of this sponge is for blending concealer and for dry patches.  I normally apply my foundation with the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush mentioned above, and I prefer the finish I get with the brush.  But I had been dealing with some nasty redness and flakiness around my mouth and nose, and the sponge helped the concealer cover it like a dream!  I can imagine that those with dry skin would love this method… the dampness of the sponge makes everything seamless.

I don’t use the sponge for my whole face… it’s just not worth the extra time for me.  But for applying concealer or for problematic skin areas, it works wonders!  So, maybe I don’t know what I am missing here, but for my money I will go with the Real Techniques sponge over the Beauty Blender and save myself about $15.00.

That’s my rundown on the Real Techniques tools I have tried… and I am a big fan!  I never have gotten a particular thrill out of buying makeup brushes, I would rather spend my cash on a new lipstick! 🙂  So I am pleased that I can buy high quality brushes at such a good price.
