Review and Swatches: L’Oreal La Palette Nude 1 & 2

When I saw these little beauties showcased in a Youtube video (you can check it out here), I knew I had to give them a try!  They seemed to have the same amazing neutrals as the Naked palettes, but with more matte shades which was a bonus for me.  I fully expected to find my local store sold out of them, and was so excited to find the shelves full.  I grabbed both and headed home to try them out right away!

La Palette Nude Review & Swatches

I have avoided most drugstore palettes in the past since it can be hard to find good quality on cheaper eye shadows.  I did not even try the tempting Maybelline The Nudes palette since I had heard such bad reviews.  To make a long story short, I was very pleasantly surprised here!  I find that I reach for this more than my Naked palette because I prefer matte colors for every day wear.  At a retail cost of approximately $15.00, that is about a $1.50 at shadow!!!  For the look in the picture below, I used shades 1, 3, 6 and 9 from the Nude 1 palette.

There are 10 shadows in each palette, both shimmers and mattes, in various shades of browns and taupes.

When I an deciding on an eyeshadow palette, there are five things I consider: pigmentation, blendability , fallout, shade selection and lasting power.

The pigmentation of the shades is decent.  They apply true to color, but in my opinion apply much lighter than they appear in the pan.  I don’t have a problem with this because it is more foolproof and I typically go for a simpler look anyway.  However if you were trying to achieve an intense or smoky look you would probably need several applications to get your desired  shade.

Blendability is excellent!  In fact, I would suggest a light hand to avoid blending to much.

Fallout factor is also excellent!  I had almost nothing to clean up after I finished my eye look.

Shade selection is good.  If I could change anything, I would add a few more matte lighter colors and possibly one intense shimmer.  All the light colors are shimmers, however the shimmer is very subtle.  You will notice that some of the shades are barely visible in the swatches below.

And lastly… staying power.  The picture below is of the shadow after 4 hours of wear, during which I was gardening in the sun.  The intensity had faded somewhat, but the color is still there!  Most of the wear shows in my mascara, not the shadow.  I tend to have oily eyelids anyway, so I’m sure they would last even better on those with normal to dry skin.

Overall I give these palletes an A! Excellent for creating a good variety of great, wearable everyday looks. Possibly not what I would reach for first if I was wanting an dramatic, nighttime look, but it is a solid offering that compares to many high end brands.
