The Best Time of Our Lives

Nate and I went for a walk the other night.  And for some reason, we spent most of the walk complaining about things that were going wrong… how we were too busy… how things weren’t getting done… how such-and-such went wrong.  Suddenly, I turned to him, kissed him, and said “You know these are the best times of our lives?!”

“Really?” he said.  It was one of those sarcastic “reallys”.

“Of course!”  Because this time of life is totally for us.  No one is depending on us, we are free to do whatever we want.  We can take walks together, sit and watch TV together, snuggle together, complain together, and work together.

It is a beautiful time that you get to spend with your best friend… to just be with them and to be thankful that they exist.

Now, I know that we will have many more, just as beautiful, times ahead.  That once we start a precious little family we will wonder how we were ever complete before.

But these days will last only for a time.  And for now, in this moment, these are the best days of our lives.

  1. Amen! You are suffering from, as we have coined the phrase at our house – BLESSING OVERLOAD! All the “stuff” that screws up our heads and takes over our lives because of living in an affluent society. Example: “Gotta get the fender painted, the jeweler still hasn’t got my ring fixed, we have to hurry and get the TV back while the warranty’s still good and I’m gonna scream if I have to make one more phone call about my phone and internet bill.” Wait! That means I have jewelry, cars, fancy new TV’s, phones and internet! Maybe that’s when I need to count my blessings?

  3. Such wisdom from those so young. It’s always the best time of our life if the Lord’s in it. Just some wisdom from an almost 77 year old.
